The Personal Stuff

The first questions are all about Melissa and her blog. Let’s get to know her a little better!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

I’ve been obsessed with fashion and accessories since I was a child. Even as a toddler, I loved dressing up and having fashion shows at home for friends and family. As a shopper extraordinaire and lover of all things luxury, I have always gravitated toward lavish fabrics, elegant silhouettes and designer footwear and handbags. A self-professed shopaholic, nothing provided me with an adrenaline rush quite like adding to my carefully-curated collection of designer clothing, shoes and accessories. It wasn’t until I had 2 babies under the age of two that I discovered the true meaning of running on adrenaline. As a stay-at-home mom to an infant and toddler, my babies are the focal points in my life and fill my world with endless joy. In my blog, Lullabies and Louboutins, I document my adventures in motherhood and pursuit of all things fabulous in the pinnacle of posh, Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It’s my goal to inspire women everywhere to throw on that rainbow colored fur vest and be the most fabulous mom at school drop-off.

What made you decide to start a blog?

My inner circle has been encouraging me for years to start my own blog, but it never seemed like the right time.  I wasn’t able to fully commit and didn’t want to create something that I couldn’t be proud of.  Now that I have an infant and toddler, I’m so immersed in taking care of my babies and sometimes it seems all-consuming. Then one day, it hit me – why not put a unique spin on the traditional fashion/lifestyle blog and focus not only on those aspects, but how to maintain this lifestyle while simultaneously taking care of two babies?! After months of conceptualizing and designing, my third baby. Lullabies and Louboutins, was born.

How long have you been blogging?

I’m a newcomer to the blogging community after having just launched my site in January.

What do you love about blogging?

Self-expression through the written word feels extremely empowering.  Writing content for my blog has been a creative outlet that breaks down barriers and allows me to interact with people from all over the world.

Who are some of your favorite bloggers?

The Blogging Stuff

Now let’s go behind-the-scenes with some advice from Melissa for all the new and aspiring bloggers out there!

What platform do you use for your blog?

WordPress

What’s the most useful thing you’ve learned about blogging so far?

The most useful thing I’ve learned is that a strong social media presence is essential for any successful blogger. There is no better way to attract new followers and maintain relationships with the ones you already have.

What challenges are you working through right now?

The greatest challenges I’m facing right now are consistency and finding time to write meaningful content. 24 hours never quite seems like enough to accomplish all that I do in a day, especially with little ones competing for my attention.

Anything you want to say to people thinking about starting a blog?

Do one thing at a time. It’s very easy to feel overwhelmed and discouraged while you gradually grow your followers. Go slow and get to know your readers.
